CONCRETEClass 1.8 – The Fundamentals of Concrete Rheology for the Concrete Practitioner

A very simple introduction to Concrete Rheology explaining concrete as a Bingham material. Common tests done on fresh concrete such as the slump test are often described as ‘single-point’ tests. The lecture will discuss the potential advantages of ‘two-point’ testing using a concrete rheometer over the ‘single-point’ tests commonly done on fresh concrete.
Requirements for attending this class:
– Basic knowledge of the constituents of concrete
– Basic mathematics, no more than Matric Level
Presenter: John Roxburgh
John Roxburgh has a BSc Building Science degree and is a member of the institute of concrete technology in London. In 2009 he joined the Cement and Concrete Institute as a lecturer in the School of Concrete Technology. He remained in this role until the demise of Cement and Concrete SA in 2024. While employed at Cement and Concrete SA he ran the Advanced Concrete Technology diploma programme.
