CONCRETEClass 2.1: From Raw Materials to Performance – Revisiting the Fundamentals of Cement Manufacturing

This presentation takes a step back to revisit the fundamentals of cement manufacturing—principles we often move away from with experience. It will follow a cradle-to-grave approach, starting at the quarry through clinker production, to how cement is ultimately produced, including an overview of cement types in accordance with SANS 50197 and their performance characteristics. It will highlight how these fundamentals directly influence cement behaviour in practice, helping attendees better understand and interpret what they see on site or in the lab, with practical insights that connect theory to everyday decision-making.
Requirements for attending this class:
– Basic knowledge of the constituents of concrete
– Basic mathematics, no more than Matric Level
