CONCRETEClass 1.9 – Reinforced Concrete Design Recap – Design for Flexure with and without Axial Force

This presentation provides an overview of reinforced concrete design for flexure, both with and without axial force. It covers the fundamental principles governing flexural behavior, including the distribution of stresses, strains in reinforced concrete members and the importance of ductility in structural performance. Design assumptions, material properties, and section behaviour influence will be discussed.
Requirements for attending this class:
– Basic knowledge of the constituents of concrete
– Basic mathematics, no more than Matric Level
Presenter: Dr. Sarah Skorpen, University of Pretoria
Sarah Skorpen is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Pretoria. She is involved in structural engineering research and teaches structural design courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
