DESCRIPTION:By Prof Sylvia Keßler\, Helmut-Schmidt-University /  University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg\, Germany \nAs sustainability\, resilience\, and whole-life performance become increasingly important\, concrete structures are expected to provide reliable service for 100 years or more. Achieving this requires a shift from traditional prescriptive design towards a performance-based\, life-cycle approach.\nThis presentation explores reinforcement corrosion as the primary deterioration mechanism affecting reinforced concrete structures in aggressive  environments.
