SUMMARY:CONCRETEClass 1.9 - Reinforced Concrete Design Recap - Design for Flexure with and without Axial Force
DESCRIPTION:This presentation provides an overview of reinforced concrete design for flexure\, both with and without axial force. It covers the fundamental principles governing flexural behavior\, including the distribution of stresses\, strains in reinforced concrete members and the importance of ductility in structural performance. Design assumptions\, material properties\, and section behaviour influence will be discussed. \nRequirements for attending this class:\n– Basic knowledge of the constituents of concrete\n– Basic mathematics\, no more than Matric Level \nPresenter: Dr. Sarah Skorpen\, University of Pretoria \nSarah Skorpen is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Pretoria. She is involved in structural engineering research and teaches structural design courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. \nDate: Thursday\, 06 November 2025\nTime: 15:00 – 16:00 \nECSA CPD accreditation applied for\nOnly CSSA Members qualify to receive ECSA CPD points.\nTo become a Member visit our website:\nwww.concretesocietysa.org.za or contact Natasja. \nRSVP:\nNatasja Pols on or before Wednesday\, 05 November 2025\nnatasja.pols@concretesocietysa.org.za \n  \nRSVP HERE\n\n

SUMMARY:CONCRETEFiX 5.12 - Pricing vs. Performance: Rethinking Concrete Choices on Tight Timelines
DESCRIPTION:By Martinus Stroebel\, Technical Manager\, Métier Mixed Concrete \nWhen quantity surveyors price a job\, nine times out of ten they go with the cheapest concrete quote they can get. Then\, once the project kicks off and the project manager realises the formwork turnaround isn’t meeting expectations\, the ready-mix supplier often gets blamed for “poor-quality” concrete.\nBut is it really a concrete problem? Or should contractors and engineers be a bit more mindful when pricing a job that has tight timelines? \nDATE: Thursday\, 20 November 2025\nvia Teams @ 15:00 SAST (UTC+2 hours)\nAttendance Free \nECSA CPD accreditation applied for\nOnly CSSA Members qualify to receive ECSA CPD points.\nTo become a Member visit our website: www.concretesocietysa.org.za \nRSVP\nNatasja Pols on or before Wednesday\, 19 November 2025 to natasja.pols@concretesocietysa.org.za \n  \nRSVP HERE\n\n
